Vineeta Singh Business Success Story

Written by

Vineeta Singh is the co-founder and CEO of SUGAR Cosmetics, one of India’s fastest-growing omnichannel beauty brands. An alumnus of IIT Madras and IIM Ahmedabad, she made headlines at just 23 by rejecting a lucrative ₹1 crore annual salary offer from Deutsche Bank to pursue her passion for entrepreneurship, opting instead to survive on a modest monthly stipend.

Her path to success was non-linear and filled with setbacks. Her initial startup ventures—an HR outsourcing firm called Quetzal and a beauty subscription service named Fab Bag—faced significant scaling challenges. However, Fab Bag served as a crucial data pool. Recognizing that global cosmetics giants failed to cater to Indian skin tones and withstood the humid climate, she launched SUGAR Cosmetics in 2015 alongside her husband, Kaushik Mukherjee.

Despite facing over 100 investor rejections and systemic gender bias during early funding rounds, Singh built a massive beauty empire. The brand focuses on premium, smudge-proof, and inclusive products tailored specifically for Indian consumers. Today, the company boasts a valuation of over ₹4,000 crore, with a vast retail footprint spanning 45,000+ touchpoints across 550 cities.

Beyond SUGAR, Singh expanded her business portfolio in 2023 by partnering with Bollywood actress Kareena Kapoor Khan to launch the Korean skincare brand Quench Botanics. As a prominent judge and investor on Shark Tank India since 2021, she has backed dozens of budding startups, actively prioritizing and championing funding for women-led businesses. Her exceptional leadership has earned her a spot on the Forbes India W-Power list and regular features on major business magazine covers.
