Method of Kalash Sthapana Puja

Kalash installation –

Ground Touch –

Where the Kalash is to be placed, make an eight-petalled lotus out of flour, place a lump of clean soil on it and touch the ground while reciting the following mantra:

ॐ May the earth, the heavens and the earth not look upon this sacrifice. They drank us with their fill.

Spraying of Saptadhanya –

Sprinkle saptadhanya (or barley) on the lump of soil while chanting the following mantra-

ॐ The herbs spoke together with the king of the moon. O King, you are crossing the cow to whom the brāhmaṇa offers it.

Kalash installation –

After sprinkling the Saptadhanya, recite the following mantra and reverently place the Kalash on top of the bunch-

ॐ Ajigdhra kalasham mahya tva vvishantvindavas. Again Rujrja, the milky one, turn back and let the thousand-year-old Sana enter the mountain again.

Filling the vase with water –

Fill the installed Kalash with Gangajal or pure water while reciting the following mantra-

ॐ You are the source of Varuna’s sky, you are the source of Varuna’s skkambha, you are the house of Varuna, you are the source of Ṛta, you are the source of Ṛta, you are the holy place of Varuṇa, you are the source of Ṛta.

Leaving fragrant liquid inside the urn –

After filling the Kalash with pure water, put aromatic smell and sandalwood in it while chanting the following mantra-

ॐ You are the Gandharvas, You are the Indra, You are the Bṛhaspati. The learned king Soma in medicine has saved you from tuberculosis

The best medicine –

Leave Sarvoshadhi or Satawar in the Kalash while reciting the following mantra –

ॐ Ya ‘oshadhihpurva jata devabbhyas triyugam pura. I gave you seven hundred and seven hundred and fifty cows.

Durva-

Leave clean Durva sprouts in the Kalash while reciting the following mantra-

ॐ From stem to stem pprarohanti parusah parushaspari. Evano durve ppratanu with a thousand and a hundred.

Panch Pallava-

Place Panch Pallava or mango leaves in the Kalash while reciting the following mantra-

ॐ Ashvatthe vo nishadanam parne vo vvastishkrita. Gobhaja ‘itkilasatha yatsanavatha purusham.

Kush-

Leave the holy kusha in the Kalash while reciting the following mantra-

ॐ Pavitre stho vvaishnavyau saviturvvah pprasavah uuttpunamya chidraena pavitrena suryasya rashmibhim. That which we have given you again, O Lord of the holy, the holy and the pure, is to be done.

Saptamrittika-

Leave Saptamrittika or holy soil of Ganga in the Kalash while reciting the following mantra-

ॐ Syona pprithivi no bhavannrkshara niveshani. Give us Sharma Sapprathas.

Betel nut (Pugifal)-

Leave the betel nut in the Kalash while reciting the following mantra-

ॐ Those which are fruitful and those which are unfruitful and those which are flowering. May those laughter born of Brihaspati release us from the gum laughter.

Pancharatna-

Leave Panchratna in the Kalash while reciting the following mantra-

ॐ Pari Vajapatih Kaviragnirhalyanyakramita. They gave you the jewels.

Material-

Drop gold or Dakshina in the Kalash while reciting the following Mantra-

ॐ Hiranyagarbha, the husband of the being born at the tip of the convergence, was the only one.
He sustained the earth and the heavens. To whom should we offer oblations of ghee?

Raksha Sutra-

Tie a protective thread around the neck of the Kalash while reciting the following mantra-

ॐ Sujata, with Jyotisha, gave birth to Vvarūtha, the son of Sharma. Vvaso’agne vvishvaroopa gum samvyayasva vvibhavaso.

Fully qualified –

Place a vessel filled with grains over the Kalash while reciting the following mantra-

ॐ Purna Darvi Parapata Supurna Punarapata. Vvastrava Vvikrinavaha ‘Ishamurja Gum Shatakkrato.

Coconut-

Place a coconut wrapped in red cloth over the full vessel while chanting the following mantra-

ॐ Those which are fruitful, which are unfruitful, and which are flowering. May those laughing cows born of Brihaspati release us

Now we will invoke Lord Varuna in this full Kalash-

Varun Avahan –

With whole rice and flowers in your hand, meditate on Lord Varuna while chanting the following mantra and invoke him-

ॐ Tattva yami bbrahmana vvandamanastadashaste yajmana havirbhih.
Ahedmana vvaruneha bodhirusha gun sa ma na ‘ayuh ppramoshih.
I offer my obeisances to Varuna with his family, weapons and power in this urn.
ॐ Apampatiya Varunaya Namah ।

Now offer unbroken flowers in front of the Kalash-

Invocation of rivers like Ganga etc. in the Kalash-

While leaving rice grains on the Kalash, chant the following mantra and invoke the rivers like Ganga etc.

Vishnu is seated at the mouth of the urn and Rudra at the neck. Brahma is situated at the root of it and the mothers are said to be in the middle.
In his abdomen are the seven oceans and the seven islands of the earth Arjuna and Gomati and Chandrabhaga and Saraswati.
The Cauvery and the Krishnavena and the Ganges are the great rivers. Tapti Godavari Gaindri and Narmada.
And all the rivers of various kinds and so on. The holy places on earth are in the urn.
All the seas, rivers, banks, clouds and streams. Let them come for my peace who destroy evil.
Then the Rigveda, the Yajurveda, the Samaveda and the Atharva Veda. All of them with their limbs were placed in the urn.
Here is Gayatri Savitri peace and nourishment.Let the destroyers of evil come for my peace.

Prestige-

While reciting the following mantra, leave whole rice grains on the Kalash and touch it-

ॐ May Brihaspati, the sage of the mind, who is the source of all sacrifices, stretch out this sacrifice and place it on the sacrificial fire. Vvishvedevas ‘iha madayantama3ppratishtha. May the demigods invoked in the urn, such as Varuna, be well established and bestow boons. ॐ to the gods invoked by Varunadya.

Posture –

Offer flowers to Lord Varuna for the seat while chanting the following mantras-

ॐ Purusha ‘Eveda Gum Sarvam Vyadbhutam Yyacca Bhalyam. Uta is the nectar of the Lord, which is transcended by food.
ॐ Bhurbhuvah Svah Varunaya Namah, I offer the seat. I offer flowers for the seat.

Paadya(Washing of feet) –

Leave one Aachmani water near the Kalash for Padya.

ॐ This is the glory of the Supreme Personality of Godhead. His feet are the worlds and all living beings are the nectar of the three feet in heaven
ॐ Bhurbhuvah Svah Varunaya Namah, I offer the water for washing feet.

Arghyaḥ (water for washing hands) –

Offer Arghya to Lord Varun by taking water, fragrance, whole rice grains, flowers and fruits in a pure vessel.

ॐ The man rose from three feet and his feet became here again. Then Vvishvang went about eating and drinking.
ॐ Bhurbhuvah Svah Varunaya Namah, I offer arghya.

Achman –

For Aachmana, pour two Aachmani water in front of the Kalash for Lord Varun while reciting the following mantra.

ॐ Then Vvirada was born, Vviraja, the Supreme Person. He was born and ripped the ground behind him and then before him.
ॐ Bhurbhuvah Varunaya Namah, I offer the Aachamana.

Bathing –

While reciting the following mantra, release water from one aachmani (a spoon) for bathing Lord Varuna:

ॐ From that sacrifice, all the sacrifices are offered to the bull. The animals that were in the forests and in the villages were cut down.
ॐ Bhurbhuvah Svah Varunaya Namah, I offer bath.

Panchamrit Snana –

After taking bath with water, give bath with panchamrit while reciting the following mantra-

I have brought five nectars milk curd butter honey Take a bath mixed with sugar
ॐ Bhurbhuvah Svah Varunaya Namah, I offer the five nectar baths.

Pure water bath –

After taking Panchamrit bath, take bath again with pure water while reciting the following mantra-

The Ganges, Yamuna, Godavari and Sarasvatī rivers are also known. O Narmada, Sindhu and Cauvery, please make your presence felt in this water.
Ome Bhurbhuvah Svah Varunaya Namah, I offer a bath in pure water.

Clothing –

After bathing, offer a cloth on the Kalash to Lord Varun or offer Raksha Sutra in case of lack of cloth.

Protection from cold, wind and heat is the ultimate protection from shame. Give me peace from the body ornaments and clothes.
Ome Bhurbhuvah Svah Varunaya Namah, I offer the cloth. I offer two ablutions at the end of the garment.

After offering the garment, drop two Acharya waters.

Yagyopaveet –

Offer sacred thread in the Kalash to Varun Ji with devotion-

It is composed of nine fibers and is composed of three divine elements. Please accept the sash I have given you, O Lord!
ॐ Bhurbhuvah Svah Varunaya Namah, I offer the sacred veil.
I offer two ablutions at the end of the sacrificial veil.

After offering the sacred thread, again pour two cups of water

Undergarments –

Offer clothes to Lord Varuna while reciting the following mantra or offer Raksha Sutra in case of lack of clothes –

ॐ Sujato jyotisha saha sharma vvaruthamasadattsvah. Vvaso ‘agne vvisvarupa gu samvyayasva vibhavaso.
O Varuna, I offer the undergarment. I offer a dvirachan at the end of the undergarment.

After offering the undergarment, again pour two glasses of water.

Sandalwood –

Now offer sandalwood to Lord Varun with devotion –

ॐ The Gandharvas have dug you, Indra has dug you, and Brihaspati has dug you. The king of the moon, who was in the herb, saved you from tuberculosis.
Srikhanda sandalwood is divine rich in fragrance and very pleasant. Ointment, O best of the gods! Please accept the sandalwood.
OM BHURBHUVAH SWAH VARUNAAYA NAMAH, I offer fragrance.

Akshat –

Offering of unbroken rice grains mixed with sandalwood and saffron

The best of the gods were unbroken and decorated with saffron O Lord, please accept this offering I have made with devotion.
OM BHURBHUVAH SWAH VARUNAAYA NAMAH, I offer unbroken grains.

Pushpa (garland) –

Offer Lord Varun a garland of fragrant flowers.

O lord garlands and other fragrant flowers are like jasmine Please accept the flowers I have brought for worship
OM Bhurbhuvah Svah Varunaya Namah, I offer flowers and a garland of flowers.

Durva –

Offer twenty-one sprouts of tender grass to Lord Varun.

Durvakuras are well-green-nectars and auspicious. Accept them brought to you for worship, O Lord of the hosts!
Ome Bhurbhuvah Svah Varunaya Namah, I offer the Durvangkuras.

Sindoor –

Apply vermilion to Varun ji

Sindur is beautiful red and auspicious and enhances happiness. Receive the auspicious and lustful sindur.
ॐ Bhurbhuvah Svah Varunaya Namah, I apply sindur.

Abir, Gulal etc. substances –

Sprinkle abir and gulal on Varun ji-

It is an excellent powder made from various pure ingredients. Take a powdered fragrance called Abir.
Ome Bhurbhuvah Svah Varunaya Namah, I offer various pure ingredients.

perfumery-

Apply perfume to Varun ji –

ॐ We offer our respectful obeisances to the Supreme Personality of Godhead, who is fragrant and enhances our auspiciousness. Like Urvashi, I will free you from the bondage of death and from the nectar.
ॐ Bhurbhuvah Svah Varunaya Namah, I offer fragrant ingredients.

Sunlight –

Burn incense with incense sticks or agarbatti-

It is rich in fragrance and has an excellent aroma derived from the taste of plants This incense is fragrant to all the gods Please accept it
ॐ Bhurbhuvah Svah Varunaya Namah, I offer incense.

Lamp-

Show the lamp to Varun ji –

ॐ Agnijjyetijjyotiragniḥ Svaha Suryojjyotijjyotiḥ Suryaḥ Svaha. Fire is the source of light, Svaha is the source of light, Svaha is the source of light, Svaha is the source of light. Jyoti, the sun, the sun, the light, Svaha.
I added the equipment and the pots to the fire. Take the lamp, O God! It removes the darkness of the three worlds.
ॐ Bhurbhuvah Svah Varunaya Namah, I offer the lamp.

Offering –

After lighting the lamp, wash your hands and offer various kinds of sweets.

Sugar lump foods and yogurt, milk and butter. Diet. Please accept the offerings of food and drink
ॐ Pranaaya Svaha. ॐ Apanaaya Svaha. ॐ Vyanaaya Svaha. ॐ Udanaaya Svaha. ॐ Samanaaya Svaha.
OM Bhurbhuvah Svah Varunaya, I offer the offering. I offer the ablution and offer water in the middle and the afternoon meal.

Taxation –

Sandalwood should be sprinkled for Karodvartana (by taking sandalwood in the finger of both hands)

Sandalwood is a Malay-born hand-bearing god! with musk and others. Accept it, God!.
OM Bhurbhuvah Svah Varunaya Namah, I offer sandalwood to the hands.

Seasonal fruits –

Offer various types of seasonal fruits to Varun Ji-

O lord I have placed this fruit before you By this I shall attain success in my lifetime
Ome Bhurbhuvah Svah Varunaya Namah, I offer the fruits of the seasons.

Tambool –

अब सुपाड़ी, लौंग, इलायची सहित पान चढ़ावे-

A large divine bean fruit with leaves of naga and creeper Take the beans mixed with powder of ela and others.
Oṁ bhūrbhuvah svaḥ varūṇāya namaḥ, I offer bean fruit- beans for the fragrance of the mouth.

Dakshina –

Offer Dakshina according to your faith-

The golden seed of the fire in the womb of the golden womb.
Grant me peace, who bestows the fruits of infinite merit.
Ome Bhurbhuvah Svah Varunaya Namah, I offer alms.

Circumambulation –

Circumambulate Varun ji three times.

ॐ Those who wander about in holy places, holding deer in their hands and carrying arrows. They have a thousand yojanas of guns in their bows.
ॐ Bhurbhuvah Svah Varunaya Namah, I offer the circumambulation.

Pushpanjali –

Take flowers in your hand, recite the mantra and offer the flowers.

ॐ The gods who sacrificed by sacrifice established those dharmas first.
They moved about in the nose of the glorious ones where the gods were in the past
Various fragrant flowers blooming in due season I offer flowers, please accept them, O Lord!
Ome Bhurbhuvah Svah Varunaya Namah, I offer flowers.

Urn-prayer

O crystal-bright, white-necklaced, auspicious one, I offer my obeisances to you.
O Lord of the waters, holding a good rope, sitting on a fish, I offer my obeisances to You.

Take water in your hand and pour it in front of the Kalash-

May the gods invoked, such as Varuna, be pleased with this worship.
