Tottenham to face Fulham on Wednesday with Aston Villa game postponed


Tottenham will now face Fulham in a revamped Premier League game on Wednesday, Spurs’ game against Aston Villa postponed due to the COVID-19 outbreak among the Villans squad.

Villa fielded a makeshift youth squad against Liverpool in the FA Cup on Friday night but the rules in England’s top flight differ and they are now unable to complete the game due to the number of ruled out first-team players.

A Premier League statement revealed: “The game between Aston Villa and Tottenham Hotspur, due to be played at Villa Park on Wednesday 13 January, has been postponed following a decision by the Premier League board.

“Following Villa’s request to revamp the match, and due to the number of players and staff who tested positive for COVID-19 or were placed in isolation by the club, the Premier League had no no choice but to postpone the match.

“With the health of players and staff being the priority, the League continues to work with Villa on measures to ensure their League season resumes safely and at the earliest opportunity.

“The Premier League wishes those with COVID-19 a full and speedy recovery and will revamp Villa’s game against Spurs as soon as possible.

“Following this postponement, Spurs will now play their home game against Fulham in his stead on Wednesday January 13 at 8:15 pm GMT, live on Amazon Prime Video in the UK. The match had been postponed to December 30.

“With Fulham playing on Wednesday 13 January, their home game against Chelsea will be moved from Friday 15 January to Saturday 16 January at 5.30pm GMT and will remain live on Sky Sports in the UK.

“Everton’s game at Villa will be rescheduled from Saturday January 16 at 5.30 p.m. GMT to Sunday January 17 at 12.00 GMT and will remain live on Sky Sports in the UK.”

The game between Tottenham and the Cottagers was scheduled to be played on December 30, but was postponed due to coronavirus concerns in Scott Parker’s squad. This game needed a new date and is now scheduled for Wednesday.

Fulham is said to be unhappy with the short notice of the rearrangement, having played 120 minutes in the FA Cup this weekend in their 2-0 overtime victory over Queens Park Rangers.
