Thomas Tuchel hails Chelsea players’ attitude after Spurs win

Thomas Tuchel insisted on Chelsea’s victory over Tottenham on Thursday and their recovery in form since his arrival does not depend on his coaching methods – and more so on the attitude of his players.

Chelsea have lost five of their last eight Premier League games under former coach Frank Lampard, but Tuchel has been undefeated since arriving 12 days ago and has overseen back-to-back wins after a 0-0 draw.

Chelsea sliced a close game to win away against Jose Mourinho’s Tottenham on Thursday night and changed their fortunes in pursuit of a top four spot after the final weeks of Lampard’s reign saw them slide into the mediocrity from the middle of the table.

“I’m happy with the spirit and attitude in defense. A very solid team performance and a deserved victory ”, said Tuchel quoted by BBC Sport.

“These are not my methods. I’m happy with the attitude, the team, the potential. They are good guys. It’s a nice group and they are open. It is a pleasure to be around them. We have a lot of support throughout the club. It was a quick but easy start as I feel very welcome.

While the new boss doesn’t seem keen to take the credit, Mason Mount has suggested Tuchel has added some tactical versatility and unpredictability to Chelsea by changing the style of play.

“It is difficult to come [to Tottenham] and control everywhere but we played very well. The manager wants us to play that style and it works well, it’s new and different for some of us – including me as a false nine – and we’re all learning, ”said Mount. BT Sport.

“It will be difficult for the other teams [against Chelsea] because different formations and tactics mean they won’t know what we’re going to bring.
