Thomas Partey’s return date after injury revealed

Arsenal hope to welcome midfielder Thomas Partey back from a thigh injury in time to face Newcastle United on January 9.

Atletico Madrid’s £ 45million summer signing, Partey has been limited to just five Premier League appearances this season due to the recurring injury, which initially occurred in the November 3-0 loss to Aston Villa.

He missed two games but returned in the 2-0 loss to Tottenham, only to be forced off the pitch at half-time after making the problem worse.

According to, Partey has returned to light training again but has not traveled with the rest of Arsenal’s squad which are set to face West Bromwich Albion on Saturday, with Mikel Arteta reluctant to risk bringing Partey back too early. .

Instead, club medical staff are considering January 9 as a potential return date, with Partey hoping to feature in what will likely be a rotating squad for the FA Cup third round meeting with Newcastle .

In Partey’s absence, Egyptian midfielder Mohamed Elneny enjoyed a long run in the squad, but it was the return to form of polarizing midfielder Granit Xhaka that helped Arsenal win a streak. two consecutive Premier League wins for the second time this season. .

Xhaka faced plenty of justified criticism for an insane red card against Burnley, but after serving his suspension, the Switzerland international returned with a vengeance and helped ease the pressure on Arteta.

Partey may not be ready to return to face West Brom, but Arsenal should be able to accommodate center-back David Luiz and winger Willian, who both missed the recent two wins due to illness.

Arteta is also hoping to field young winger Bukayo Saka, who has excelled in recent weeks but saw his contribution in the 1-0 win over Brighton cut short with injury.
