Steve Bruce plans loan deals for 3 fringe Manchester United players
Exclusive – Newcastle United manager Steve Bruce is keen to sign a number of Manchester United players on loan in January, but has yet to decide which one to pursue.
The Magpies are looking for additional Premier League experience to help them climb the table, but limited finances have forced Newcastle to consider loaning out a few goals this winter.
Bruce has made it clear to club hierarchy that he wants at least three new players before the transfer window closes, and sources have confirmed that 90 mins that he mentioned three United pariahs as possible targets.
Full-back Brandon Williams is high on his wishlist, and reports elsewhere suggest a tentative deal has been reached to sign the 20-year-old all-rounder.
However, Bruce has also expressed interest in center-back Phil Jones and midfielder Jesse Lingard, who are also catching the attention of the Premier League.
Bruce has spoken at length with United, with whom he has an incredibly positive relationship stemming from his time at the club between 1987 and 1996, and there is real optimism that both clubs will be doing business at some point in January.
The two sides discuss potential moves for the three, with Bruce still not fully deciding which to pull the trigger.
United are pushing for Jones to be the man to move to Newcastle. The high-earning 28-year-old tops the list of players United want to offload, and Bruce is known to be a big fan of the England international.
The Red Devils are even willing to pay part of Jones’ salary in order to facilitate his temporary exit from the club, but Bruce is reluctant to shake hands for now as he wants to assess the other options first.
United have yet to decide whether Lingard and Williams will be allowed to leave on loan this winter, but Bruce has made it known he would be ready to face either player if the opportunity arises.
