Sergio Ramos misses Real Madrid training due to illness

Center-back Sergio Ramos did not train with the rest of his Real Madrid teammates on Friday after complaining of an illness.

Zinedine Zidane’s side will host Celta Vigo at the Santiago Bernabeu on Saturday as they try to return to victory after their disappointing 1-1 draw against Elche last time around.

They may find themselves forced to face it without Ramos in their quest to catch up with their city rival, Atletico Madrid as SCREEDArancha Rodriguez notes that the center – back did not make it to the training ground on Friday.

Fortunately, his illness – an upset stomach – was not enough to keep him from working out in the gym, but he couldn’t join the rest of his teammates.

Zidane is expected to announce his squad for the Celta game later on Friday, and all eyes will be on Ramos and whether the world-class defender is included.

Even if Ramos makes the cut, there is no guarantee that he will start the game. Zidane could be forced into Nacho Fernandez, who hasn’t played a minute since early January, or Eder Militao, who battled COVID-19 in November and has not been seen since.

The hope is that Zidane will have a choice between an almost full squad against Celta. As it stands, the only confirmed absentee is winger Rodrygo, who has been sidelined with a hamstring injury.

The boss will wait for a reaction from his team against Celta. Drawing with Elche meant Real were missing out on a chance to close the gap with Atletico, and they are now two points behind Diego Simeone’s side after coming in two more games.

Celta enter the game on a seven-game unbeaten streak that includes five wins in their last six La Liga games, so Zidane will desperately want to bring Ramos back to give his side an extra boost.
