West Bromwich Albion manager Sam Allardyce has warned Arsenal their survival in the Premier League is on the line if they cannot end their miserable form.
Mikel Arteta’s side find themselves 15th in the Premier League, just four points out of the relegation zone, and they have not won a game outside the Europa League since the 1-0 win over Manchester United on November 1 .
They have fallen to eight defeats in 14 league games this year and are now out of the Carabao Cup after a 4-1 loss to Manchester City on Tuesday, and Allardyce has admitted they must be seen as real relegation rivals this season. as a result of their miserable series of results.
“If they’re in the bottom eight right now, yes. Absolutely, ”Allardyce said (via the Evening Standard) when asked if he thinks Arsenal should be seen as potential relegation candidates.
“Get beaten again [Tuesday] at night – even if it is not in the league – as it does with our players, drains the confidence of Arsenal players. Of course.
“They will wonder what hit them, they will wonder why they are there. They will wonder what it will take to get out of this position. I know what it takes, I hope I can convince the players to respond. to what I say about what it takes to get out of it.
“Hopefully we can push Arsenal when they play us because they lack confidence, and try to beat them or beat anyone in the last eight.”
The two teams will meet face to face on January 2, 2021, in what Allardyce clearly believes is a six-point relegation.
Arsenal will have the chance to build momentum ahead of the game, although meetings with Chelsea and Brighton have the potential to be tricky business for the struggling Arteta side.
