Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to miss Arsenal clash with Man Utd

Arsenal are set to be without striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang again for Saturday’s visit to Manchester United.

The Gabon international missed the last two games, the FA Cup and Premier League fixtures with Southampton, as he was caring for his mother, who was suffering from an illness.

He took to Twitter Wednesday to explain his absence and reveal that his mother has made progress in her recovery, leaving some fans to be hopeful that Aubameyang could be back in time for Saturday’s game.

However, according to, it will come too soon for Aubameyang, who will stay away from the squad for at least one more match.

“Yes, he’s our captain and one of the most important players,” said manager Mikel Arteta, when asked about Aubameyang’s absence. “We’re doing everything we can to get it as quickly as possible.

“But understanding that he went through difficult days when he had to support his family. We were here to support him as well with the time he needed to sort it out. ”

While being with Aubameyang is obviously a blow, Arteta has received a boost elsewhere as Thomas Partey, Emile Smith Rowe and Kieran Tierney were all in training for the clash against United.

Partey and Smith Rowe were both forced out the last time against Southampton, while Tierney completely missed the game, but all three returned to training in time to be in contention.

Real Madrid player Martin Odegaard was also part of training and is now set to make his debut for the Gunners, with Arteta revealing his excitement at the prospect of working with such a fascinating young player.

“He hasn’t played so many minutes in Madrid, but he’s trained hard and he looks so excited, like us, to have another great talent in our club,” added the boss.

“He’s a specialist to play in the pockets, to play in the eight or ten positions. He can play off the sides. He’s a really creative player who is really comfortable on the ball in tight spaces. He has the ability to create chances and score goals.

“What he improved a lot is his pace of work without the ball as well, so that’s another option to give us more creativity for sure in the last third, and give us more options for us. prepare in different ways against some teams. “
