Paris Saint-Germain consider move for Atletico Madrid’s Jan Oblak
Paris Saint-Germain are keeping an eye on Jan Oblak and may even discuss a January move, according to a report.
Oblak sparked Chelsea’s interest this summer as the Blues searched for a new number one goalkeeper, but a decision never materialized and they opted to sign the much more affordable Edouard Mendy.
The Daily Mail claim that Oblak has now decided he would like a new challenge and for PSG to monitor the situation as they continue to ‘constantly assess’ their squad with the aim of bringing European success to the club.
Atletico are reluctant to sell in January and have a £ 109million release clause in Oblak’s contract which would make a deal even more difficult to strike during the winter transfer window.
The Parisians are also looking at the future of Kylian Mbappe and are waiting to see if he decides to leave the club, in pursuit of other renowned players.
And with Atletico sitting atop La Liga heading into the second half of the season, this is shaping up to be their best chance at winning Spain’s top flight since they were last crowned champions in 2013/14, which makes for an incredible transfer in January. unlikely.
The report says, however, that Atleti would be open for discussions ahead of a summer transfer, as the ongoing pandemic continues to prove financially difficult for clubs. PSG could therefore be in a rather busy summer of 2021 if reports are to be believed, with them also keeping an eye on Lionel Messi as his future at Barcelona remains uncertain.
Despite the uncertainty surrounding Oblak and his desire to earn silverware, he still has the chance to end the season with Atletico and win an impressive trophy. Not only do they fly high domestically, but they also have a Champions League round of 16 against Chelsea on the horizon in 2021.
