In this emergency, Hotels left its staff alone. Our resources at different 5-star hotels informed us that some of the hotels are completely closed for an indefinite period of time without salary since April. Karachi Marriott is one of those hotels that informed its employees about this news by email. One of the Avari Towers Karachi staff members informed us of the condition of not disclosing the name that the staff who have annual permits went home with force and that they do not have annual permits sent home unpaid and the Hotel is managed with minimal staff.
Almost the same situation is happening at Ramada and PC Hotel. A more 5-star hotel in Mövenpick Karachi where the situation is comparatively better. On the condition of not revealing the name, a staff member informed us that no one had yet sent home unpaid, however, those who have annual leaves left are being pressured to go home and this is also a loss for workers. . In this critical situation, the Government of Sindh should note that, in addition to LockDown’s orders, staff are asked to go home without pay or to take annual leave.
Thousands of families are related to the hotel industry and watching the government’s action on this issue.
