Ole Gunnar Solskjaer insists there will be ‘no big inquiry’ into Sheff Utd defeat

Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has admitted he was bitterly disappointed to see his side fall 2-1 to Premier League wrestlers Sheffield United on Wednesday.

With the chance to return to the top of the Premier League table, United were nowhere near good enough against a side that had won only once all season before. They conceded early and saw Oliver Burke’s strike in the second half, after poor defense, nullify Harry Maguire’s equalizer.

It was United’s first loss in the league since losing 1-0 to Arsenal on November 1, and Solskjaer has admitted his side are nothing like the side that have enjoyed such a long unbeaten run.

“It didn’t have to be,” he said (via the club’s official website). “We felt the momentum was going in our direction as we dominated possession, dominated territory but couldn’t create enough chances.

“If you don’t when you play against Premier League sides you can get punished and that was a sloppy goal, a very sloppy goal to concede. The second goal we conceded was so bad. So sloppy. We have lost the goal. ball so easily.

“We are getting back into position, but we have stopped taking the ball. Absolutely three or four decisions that were completely out of our character. Maybe it’s due to the season. ”

However, despite all his frustration, Solskjaer refused to get carried away by his feelings, accepting that such results were a regular part of the current Premier League season.

“No big investigation,” he continued. “Of course, we are disappointed. We have seen so many results this season outside of our character and today yes we are surprised but with the world as it is we have been very consistent.

“We have been the most consistent team in recent months and it hit us today. We dust off the feeling of sadness and leave. We’ll get by tonight and start over tomorrow. Saturday is Arsenal and a great performance is needed. because they’re in good shape, in good shape, and they’ve done well against us before, we know we have to get up.

“I just think it’s that kind of season, we’ve been great, our consistency has been absolutely excellent and we’ve won close games like this so many times. When that doesn’t happen today, of course we are disappointed because we know we can play better. But I don’t have time for a long, long investigation. We have to get over it and start over. “
