Moussa Dembele ready to join Atletico Madrid on loan

Lyon striker Moussa Dembele is expected to sign a loan for Atletico Madrid, with £ 30million agreed between the two clubs if La Liga leaders decide to make the transfer permanent.

Diego Simeone has been on the hunt for a striker since it was confirmed that Atletico have terminated Diego Costa’s contract. The club have confirmed the player requested to be sacked for “personal reasons”, leaving Simeone in need of a replacement striker.

And a few weeks later, Goal reports that the void left by Costa has already been filled, with France Under-21 international Dembele due to join the club on loan until the end of the 2020/21 season.

If Atletico want to make the change permanent, a fee of £ 30million has been agreed between the two sides.

Dembele first made a name for himself in the league with Fulham, with his 15 league goals in 2015/16 enough to secure a move to Celtic. The Frenchman enjoyed two successful seasons in the Scottish Premiership – scoring 51 goals in 94 appearances for the club – before a £ 20million move to Lyon.

The 24-year-old has struggled to find the net at times this season – scoring just once in 16 appearances – however, an impressive 45 goals in 108 games since arriving at Lyon in 2018 has been enough to ensure a transfer to the Wanda Metropolitano. .

Lyon sporting director Juninho recently confirmed that the Frenchman is set to leave the Ligue 1 squad this window, telling French broadcasting company Telefoot that he will not force Dembele to stay if he wants to move on thing.

“Moussa came to see me; he thinks it’s time to change clubs, ”Juninho said. “He told me he had lost some motivation.

“It was not something we had planned. Moussa is a player that I really appreciate and we counted on him. But at the same time, keeping someone who doesn’t want to live intensely for the next five months here isn’t ideal. . “
