Arteta concluded that his team were a bit too stale and “lacking freshness” after the game, despite being happy with another defensive shutout.

“We lacked quality and final product in the final third to win the game. We took a point, another clean sheet which is really positive, but disappointing not to get the three points, ”said the Spaniard, via

“We had some difficulties in the game where we started to give balls without any pressure. [But] I think the spirit and attitude of the team in the follow-up was back. I think the boys were great there, but we were lacking that freshness and sparkle in the final third.

Days earlier, a frustrated Arsenal had needed more FA Cup time to beat a Newcastle side weakened by the prolonged aftermath of a coronavirus outbreak.

“We will assess and consider what we have done in the last two games that we need to do better,” commented Arteta.

“Defensively [against Palace], we were really solid and we don’t give it easy. We make it really difficult for the opponent. In the last third we made a lot of progress but there are things we need to do better.

Arteta also opened up about Kieran Tierney’s absence overnight, confirming that the Scotland international will need to be scanned for an as-yet unspecified injury.

“I do not know [when he will be back]. He’s going to have an MRI and we’ll see how he’s doing, ”Arteta added (via The Independent).

“He’s a real threat and the way we play and the way we attack on that left side, he’s a really important player. We didn’t have him, he’s injured and we have to find other solutions. ”
