Fenerbahce has confirmed that they plan to sign Mesut Ozil from Arsenal – getting him off a plane as they take him to Istanbul.

Ozil has been ostracized at Arsenal in recent years and 90 mins learned of the details of his impending move to Turkey earlier in January.

The Turkish side previously teased a potential announcement by tweeting “Gel Gündüzle Gece Olalım…”, but have now posted photos of former German international Ozil landing in Turkey.

Their tweet reads: “Club statement: our club brings Mesut Özil to Istanbul to continue transfer processes.”

Ozil has been excluded from manager Mikel Arteta’s 25-man Premier League squad for this season, having played sparingly in the previous quarter.

A loan transfer until the end of the season had been considered, although recent reports hinted that Ozil’s contract with Arsenal would be terminated. A long-term deal is expected to be signed by the former Real Madrid striker.

Ozil recently commented on Fenerbahce during a Questions and answers on Twitter, revealing: “I grew up as a Fenerbahce fan as a kid in Germany – every German-Turkish person supports a Turkish team when they grow up in Germany. And mine was Fenerbahce. Fenerbahce is like Real Madrid in Spain. The biggest club in Spain. the country.”

In an interview with Turkish TV station NTV on Sunday, quoted by Al Jazeera, Ozil said: “I am a fan of Fenerbahce. This is why I am very happy to come to Turkey with Fenerbahçe. I am very excited. God gave me the chance to wear this jersey as a Fenerbahce fan. God willing, I will wear it with honor and do all I can for the team.

“Of course I miss a few games. I haven’t played in a game for a while, but I’m in good physical shape, I have no problem.
