Marcus Rashford has praised Edinson Cavani after again impressing from the bench in their Boxing Day draw with Leicester.
Cavani replaced Anthony Martial with 15 minutes left at King Power Stadium and made an immediate impact. With a score equal to 1-1, he picked up the ball 25 yards from goal and played a well-weighted ball to Bruno Fernandes, who then brought the ball home.
Although United are not keeping their lead – with the Foxes scoring a late equalizer – Rashford was quick to congratulate his teammate after the game.
“He’s a top player, he has a lot of qualities and I think he gives us another dimension which is different from what we already have in the squad,” Rashford told MUTV.
“It’s good to play with him and see him score and help is important for any striker and we have to follow what we have done between us.”
Rashford then revealed that the hosts’ late goal had deflated.
“It was a big turn from Edinson and it led to Jonny [Evans] who then he had a decision to make, either to come out at him or to stay back and let him shoot. Edinson played a great pass and it was a good goal, but conceding and throwing it away is hard to take.
“It looks like a loss in the locker room. I think we deserved to win the game and had a chance to win the game, but we didn’t quite cross the line. Now we just have to recover and go back. the next.”
Cavani’s impact since arriving at Old Trafford has been considerable. Although he hasn’t started many games, he currently averages one goal or assist every 83 minutes, accumulating six goals so far.
