Manchester United have revealed that the new signing Amad Diallo will wear the number 19 shirt following the completion of his top-tier transfer from Atalanta this month.
United secured an agreement to sign Diallo in October, subject to obtaining a work permit. The paperwork was filed and the club were able to register the transfer this week.
Diallo was awarded the vacant number 19 jersey last worn by local hero Marcus Rashford until 2018. It is clearly well of his recent legacy, referencing the former occupant of the jersey with a streak of emojis – including hearts – in a social media comment.
In addition to confirming the teenager’s shirt number, United also revealed that the player will be wearing his first name and continue to have “Amad” adorned on the back of his shirts.

There had been speculation that Diallo could ask to wear 79 for United, the same shirt he had at Atalanta. However, although the Premier League does not have strict rules on jersey numbers like La Liga or Ligue 1, league officials intervened when Swansea attempted to register Renato Sanches’ lender with his jersey number. 85 favorite in 2017. This was explained at the time. that the jersey numbers of the first team should run roughly consecutively and not be massively removed from the rest of the team.
In addition, this is now the case with many top clubs that book and academy players are automatically assigned team numbers, with those numbers easily reaching the 80s and 90s due to the large number of registered players.
United’s number 79 shirt is already occupied by 16-year-old Norwegian Isak Hansen.
