Man City have been linked with a very ambitious Harry Kane candidacy
Manchester City have been linked with an ambitious summer move for Tottenham talisman Harry Kane in an effort to find a replacement for aging all-time top scorer Sergio Aguero.
Aguero will be 33 before the start of next season and injury concerns in recent months have limited him to just six Premier League appearances since March – and no goals.
A new striker is a top priority for City in 2021 and there are doubts within the club that Gabriel Jesus has enough to shoulder the torch in the long term.
Borussia Dortmund star Erling Haaland has been identified as a target and City consider themselves favorites to land the Norwegian, whose own father played for the club in the early 2000s.
In private, Haaland is yet to decide his future, while in public he has even made a short-term commitment to Dortmund insisting he is not ready to move on if early.
City would be foolish not to at least weigh other options and Bild reporter Christian Falk claimed that a summer offer worth £ 90million for Kane was being planned.
Still not having won a major trophy in his career, the England captain earlier this year refused to rule out leaving Spurs if his silver prospects improved significantly elsewhere.
“I love Spurs, I will always love Spurs, but I always said if I didn’t feel we were progressing as a team or going in the right direction, I’m not someone to stay there for pleasure. He said at the time.
The club have shown promise under Jose Mourinho in the first half of 2020/21 but a potential Premier League title challenge has stalled badly in recent weeks and Spurs have come down from the table after winning just one of their last six games. championship.
Kane’s own numbers this season are very impressive. He has 29 combined goals and assists his name in just 23 appearances in all competitions and actually leads the Premier League in assists (10), having developed his game to be a more rounded player.
But £ 90million appears to be on the light side if City are serious about signing Kane. He has a long-term contract in north London which runs until summer 2024 and Spurs are reportedly extremely reluctant to sell him to another Premier League club at any cost.
