Kerala Blasters coach Kibu Vicuna: Juande’s versatility will be an asset for the team

Juande said he had confidence in the Kerala Blasters who were turning the tables for the rest of the season…

Kibu Vicuna isn’t worried about the Kerala Blasters’ dismal defensive record as long as his team are scoring more goals than they concede. Vicuna expects his side to do the same against East Bengal on Friday.

The Blasters only have one clean sheet in the 2020-2021 edition of the Indian Super League (ISL) and have so far conceded more goals (19) than any other team this season.

“We try to improve the balance and not concede goals while creating attacking chances. The most important thing is not to concede goals (how many goals you concede) but to score against your opponent. If you concede but score (more than concede), morale is good, ”noted the Spaniard.

Vicuna opted for a two-man forward duo with Gary Hooper and Jordan Murray in their last 3-2 win over Jamshedpur on Sunday, but the coach insisted it was style rather than training for him.

“Every game is different. So what we do is look at the players that we have and the structure that we are more confident in and try to make the best team possible. It is true that Gary and Jordan performed well together in the last game, ”he also asked about his ever-changing back line.

“When you have to correct things, you have to look for the best training. During the season, we also have physical problems and injuries. [and suspensions]. We are always looking for the best formation for each match. We are also working to be more competitive in the teams because our goal is to get all three points. “

Kerala, however, have issues to resolve in defense with Lalruatthara suspended after receiving a red card. Vicuna has hinted he could use new signing Juande, replacing Sergio Cidoncha, in defense given that Vicente Gomez and Jeakson Singh have combined well in midfield lately.

“He (Juande) can help us in different positions. He’s a fantastic defensive midfielder, but he can play in other positions as well, like as a central midfielder. We are happy to have this possibility. So we will see during the match what we are going to do. will do, ”said former coach Mohun Bagan.

Meanwhile, Juande is confident the Kerala Blasters can change their season from a second position down, currently with 9 points in 10 games.

“I saw a lot of games in my forties. I think we just need to sort out the small details. I only come here to help. So it’s not a lot of pressure for me but football like I’ve played my whole life. I have good self-confidence. in this team, ”he said.
