Jurgen Klopp has revealed Diogo Jota could be sidelined for at least two more weeks due to injury, while Sadio Mane remains in doubt for Sunday’s visit to Manchester City.
The pair were both absent as Liverpool lost 1-0 to Brighton on Wednesday night – the Reds’ second straight loss at Anfield and the third consecutive Premier League goalless at home.
Mane has 10 goals and five assists in all competitions this season, but suffered minor injuries in the Reds’ 3-1 win over Tottenham at the end of January. The Senegal international missed Liverpool’s 3-1 win over West Ham and 1-0 loss to Brighton.
“Sadio could be available for the weekend, I don’t know,” Klopp said (via Yahoo). “He didn’t train with the team today. We will see.”
Jota had scored an impressive nine goals in 18 appearances for Liverpool since joining Wolves in the 2020 transfer window, but has been sidelined since injuring his knee in Liverpool’s last group game in Champions League against Midtjylland in December.
“Diogo, I’m not sure exactly, a few weeks,” Klopp said when asked when Jota was due to return. “Two, three, four, I’m not sure.”
Liverpool have a crucial match month looming, which Jota could miss out on altogether if he was absent for four full weeks.
Klopp’s side face Manchester City on Sunday, followed by a trip to Champions League rivals Leicester six days later. The Reds will then have the first leg of their 16th Champions League first leg against RB Leipzig on February 16 and a visit from rival Everton – who are four points behind in the Premier League but have two games in hand – four days later. The Reds conclude February with a trip down from Sheffield United.
