Julian Draxler makes decision on the immediate future of PSG

Julian Draxler is expected to see what is left of his contract with Paris Saint-Germain before moving on and finding a new club this summer.

The German has fallen out of favor in the French capital and has only made 11 league appearances so far this season, but the club are now under new management with Mauricio Pochettino, having sacked Thomas Tuchel in December 2020.

The 27-year-old’s current deal expires in June and he is free to strike a deal with a new club on a pre-contract basis, with speculation also tying him to a January exit. This will not be the case however, according to BILD and as reported by Get French Football News, which claims that Draxler will stay with Les Parisiens until the end of the season.

A decision on his future is expected to be made in March, effectively ruling out a mid-season transfer due to Draxler holding a favorable contract and in no rush to leave Paris.

90 mins understand that Arsenal have shown an interest in Draxler and considered him in their search for an attacking midfielder this month. And while a loan deal for Martin Odegaard is nearing completion, it’s worth offering Draxler a pre-contract deal to get him a free transfer.

The German joined PSG from Wolfsburg in 2017 in a deal worth € 42million and racked up a lot of French national silverware during his stay, but failed to really deliver. the expected impact in their quest for a Champions League crown.

While there might be room for a final revival under Pochettino’s tutelage, PSG’s interest in Dele Alli sees it as an unlikely option.

Draxler appears resigned to ending his stay in Paris once his contract ends, and an announcement on where he will play his football in the future is unlikely to come long after the January transfer window closes.
