Jose Mourinho provides update on Dele Alli and Harry Kane returns
Jose Mourinho has revealed Tottenham striker Harry Kane may return from injury to face either Manchester City or Everton in the coming weeks.
Kane took hits to both ankles in the 3-1 loss to Liverpool last week and missed the next trip to Brighton, where Spurs looked particularly lifeless on offense in a 1-0 loss.
Speaking ahead of Thursday’s London derby with Chelsea, Mourinho said. “Good progress, he is happy with the progress and we are happy too.
“I think it’s not very optimistic to say next week that he should play, it will be a consequence of his good development.
“We are happy. We were scared when it happened, but next week we play Everton and [Manchester] City on weekends. I think for one of those matches he should be back. “
The former Chelsea boss has also shed some light on the current situation around Dele Alli.
The England international has been left out of the squad for much of the season, making rare appearances in the league and in various cup competitions. He was officially reported missing recently due to an injury, although rumors of a move to Paris Saint-Germain were cited as a factor in his recent absence.
This transfer was unsuccessful, leaving Alli furious and frustrated as revealed 90 mins, and there have been calls for him to be reintroduced to the squad during Tottenham’s recent poor form.
Mourinho added: “He needs to recover from his injury, return to training and make a fresh start. Last week he couldn’t even train, so that’s the most important.
“I had a good conversation with him yesterday [Tuesday], we talked and I think we found some common ground. It’s an important time of the season for the team and for him too. We need him. We need a good Dele Alli. “
Regarding the team’s recent issues creating opportunities, he added: “Dele, Kane, Lo Celso, we’re talking about players who without the three we miss the creation, a little bit of magic around the attack zones.
“We had a conversation. Of course, a conversation doesn’t put a player in good shape but hopefully the motivation they [Dele] must be back for the team.
“We are in the Europa League, Premier League and FA Cup although I don’t think he will come back for that. I think when he is physically ready he will be in a good state of mind. ”
