Everton defender Jonjoe Kenny has joined Premiership champions Celtic on loan for the remainder of the season.
The 23-year-old has only appeared for the Toffees four times in the Premier League this quarter, playing a total of just 80 minutes.
Kenny spent the 2019/20 season on loan with Schalke in the Bundesliga for whom he made 34 appearances, contributing two goals and three assists.
Having played such an important role in Gelsenkirchen, gaining some experience in one of the best leagues in European football, the right-back may think he needs more playing time at this point in his career.
It was already reported by BBC Sport on Sunday that Celtic are hoping to secure a loan deal before the window ends, and that move has been confirmed by Everton and Celtic.
Kenny had also been linked with a move to Burnley during this window having found himself very far from Carlo Ancelotti’s plans. The Italian coach preferred to trust the more experienced Seamus Coleman and Mason Holgate.
Celtic have struggled this season and are currently 23 points behind their Old Firm rivals Rangers. Having sold Jeremie Frimpong to Bayer Leverkusen for £ 9.9million just days ago, you can see why the Hoops are in the market for a right of return.
Kenny, a young product at the Merseyside club, has had loan spells at Wigan Athletic and Oxford United before, as well as the aforementioned time he spent in Germany. It remains to be seen if he has a future at Everton but for now, given his current role in the squad, a move to the Scottish champions allows him to continue his development.
