The Highlanders are set to chain Jamaican forward Deshorn Brown from Bengaluru to replace injured forward Kwesi Appiah …
NorthEast United are set to face Jamaican forward Deshorn Brown from Bengaluru in the January transfer window.
Ghanaian Highlanders forward Kwesi Appiah, who has been out of action for almost a month now due to injury, is set to be replaced by Bengaluru forward.
Brown had joined the Blues last season in the January window on an 18-month contract and had appeared in seven Indian Super League (ISL) matches scoring three goals. He has made 10 appearances of which he started in just four and has yet to score a single goal.
Kwesi Appiah, who has made eight ISL appearances for the Highlanders this season, has scored three goals but is now sadly out of action with injury. The Ghanaian is unlikely to get back in shape before the end of the season, so Highlanders management have decided to sign a replacement for the former Crystal Palace man.
Bengaluru and NorthEast United have not had the best starts of the season. They are respectively in sixth and eighth position after 11 matches. Both teams have scored 13 goals so far this season.
Another glaring similarity between the clubs is that they have both separated from their managers. As Carles Cuadrat left Bengaluru ahead of their game against East Bengal, Gerard Nus was shown the door after NorthEast drew 1-1 with the Blues. Naushad Moosa is currently in charge of Bengaluru while Khalid Jamil is back as interim head coach of the Highlanders.
Brown has had a tough 2020-21 season so far and will be looking for greener pastures at NorthEast United.
Last year, Manuel Onwu left the Blues in the middle of the season due to poor performance and joined Odisha FC where shone brightly in the second half of the season. It will be interesting to see if Brown can do something similar as well and change NorthEast’s fortunes.
Meanwhile, FC Goa are expected to sign ATK reserve goalkeeper Mohun Bagan, Dheeraj Singh Moirangthem, who is expected to join Gaur next week. The former Indian U17 goalkeeper, who made his ISL debut with Kerala Blasters, has yet to make an ISL appearance for ATK Mohun Bagan.
It should be noted that the contract of regular Goa goalkeeper Mohammed Nawaz is expected to expire at the end of the season.
