Inter are nearing a deal that will see Paul’s Udinese Rodrigo talisman arrive this summer, but a January move could still be secured if the club can offload Christian Eriksen.
The former Tottenham man has been through a scorching spell since arriving in Italy in January 2020. Almost a year after leaving north London, the Danish international has collected just 12 Serie A starts and just one league goal.
Eriksen’s time at San Siro looks set to end, with a whole slew of clubs including Spurs and Arsenal reportedly keeping an eye on the midfielder, and it looks like the Dane’s departure from the Inter could give the green light to a January decision for De Paul.
The Argentina international has himself been the center of much transfer speculation in recent months, with Premier League side Leeds keen to secure their services in the last transfer window.
Antonio Conte’s side now appear to be favorites to land the midfield, with Tuttosport saying a summer deal is “in their [Inter’s] hands’.
The Nerazzurri are longtime admirers of De Paul and have been watching his performance since 2019, while the Udinese man is reportedly keen to step up alongside Conte.
Currently, the deal is set to take place this summer, but if Inter can offload Eriksen this month, De Paul’s arrival could be further accelerated.
Eriksen’s agent Martin Schoots is in contact with a number of Premier League clubs over a possible move, a loan which appears to be the most likely outcome.
Despite the former club’s interest in the Denmark international, their refusal to deviate from the £ 20million asking price for Eriksen when he left the club for Inter in January 2020 means that any potential return to Tottenham seems unlikely at the moment.
