The biggest cricketing extravaganza in Pakistan is about to get underway in a couple of days time and the fifth season of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) is about to kick-off on the evening of 20th February 2020. The much-celebrated T20 tournament of Pakistan is going to be hosted in completely in Pakistan for the first time in five years.
The Pakistan Super League (PSL) first started in 2016 when the efforts of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) finally paid off. However, the tournament was played in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and the home spice was definitely missing.
The PCB kept on working hard under the supervision of the former PCB chairman Najam Sethi and the second edition brought the good news for the fans when the final of the tournament was played at the Gaddafi Stadium Lahore in 2017.
Peshawar Zalmi won that final with the help of all their foreign players visiting the country for the final. However, the refusal of the Quetta Gladiators’ players was still putting a lot of things in doubt.
After that, things started falling in place as far as the security situation in the country is concerned and the PSL 2018 brought major success as most of the foreign players were willing to visit Pakistan and the PCB also played extremely well in that situation to host 8 matches of the tournament in the country including the play-offs.
The PSL 2019 was also a major success as high-profile players like Shane Watson, Alex Hales, Luke Ronchi and Colin Munro played in the stadiums of Pakistan.
Play-offs of the PSL 2019 were also hosted in Pakistan but the venues were just restricted to Lahore and Karachi.
In PSL 2020, we’re going to see 4 venues hosting the 34-match tournament. For other match prizes such as the best catch, best run, and the sixth, the remaining amount is allocated. The HBL PSL 2020 is going to be the first major tournament in Pakistan after the country hosted the Asia Cup in 2008 twelve years ago.
The Asia Cup 2008 was played in Karachi and Lahore together and the Indian cricket team also participated in that tournament along with Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Hong Kong and the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
The HBL PSL 2020 is a domestic tournament but it is going to be held across four venues in Pakistan with Karachi hosting 9 and Lahore getting the hosting rights of 13 matches. Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium is going to host 8 HBL PSL matches whilst the beautiful stadium of Multan will also get to host 3 matches of this prestigious tournament.
We all look forward to the Pakistan Super League (PSL) edition five because some of the most amazing T20 players in the world are coming to Pakistan and they’re going to play right in front of the fans that are starving for cricket at their home.
