Chelsea have made the decision to sack manager Frank Lampard after worrying about the Blues’ poor form.
The Blues have won just four of their last 11 games in all competitions – a race that saw them fall to ninth in the Premier League table and highlighted Lampard’s quality as a manager.
Chelsea have come to the conclusion that Lampard is not the right man to lead the club, according to the Telegraph, and confirmation of his departure could come as early as Monday.
Chelsea players have been urged to stay away from the Cobham training complex until later Monday, giving the Blues hierarchy time to work things out behind the scenes.
Sky Germany Max Bielefeld claims ex-PSG boss Thomas Tuchel is set to take over, with a deal with the German nearing completion.
The move comes less than 24 hours after Chelsea booked their spot in the FA Cup fifth round with a 3-1 win over Luton Town, but that result clearly wasn’t enough to convince the board that Lampard can to change things.
The Blues were top of the Premier League table in early December, but a streak of just three wins in their last nine league games has seen the Blues collapse in the table.
They are now 11 points behind leaders Manchester United and five behind fourth-placed Liverpool, with owner Roman Abramovich increasingly concerned that Champions League qualification could slip away with some mediocre results.
The belief was that Abramovich would be reluctant to pull the trigger on Lampard unless he found someone he felt could make the most of the current squad, and it looks like he may have found someone. ‘a.
