Facundo Pellistri set to join Alaves on loan from Man Utd

Manchester United winger Facundo Pellistri is expected to fly to Spain in the coming days to seal a loan transfer to Alaves.

Penarol’s £ 10million signing over the summer, Pellistri is yet to make his United debut. He was an unused replacement for two Champions League games, but actually spent most of his time with the reservists.

United want the 19-year-old to play senior football again, but don’t think he’s ready for a place at Old Trafford just yet, and the arrival of 18-year-old Amad Diallo from Atalanta has presented another obstacle for Pellistri. .

Talks have been held with Belgian club Brugge, but as Goal noted, it was Alaves who won the race for the Uruguayan signing.

Pellistri has already spoken to Alaves officials and is now set to fly to Spain on Sunday to put pen to paper on a six-month loan.

It is understood that Pellistri pushed United to accept Alaves’ proposal as he always dreamed of playing in La Liga and was captivated by manager Abelardo’s plan for the winger.

He did not choose an easy road. Alaves are currently 18th in La Liga, at a point of safety. They have lost ten games, a league-high, while their 18 goals scored are tied for the fourth-worst record in the division.

Pellistri will join a struggling frontline that includes former Premier League talents Lucas Perez, Joselu and Jota, and the hope is he can inspire Abelardo’s side to safety.

United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has often praised Pellistri, who was a regular part of the first-team training squad at Carrington, and it was quickly decided the teenager was already too good for reserve football.

However, with Diallo being nominated for a place in the squad in the near future, the decision has been made for Pellistri to go on loan and hopefully compete for a place in the senior squad upon his return to Old Trafford. .
