Dejan Lovren claims he misses Liverpool more than they miss

Dejan Lovren has claimed he believes he missed Liverpool more than he missed them this season.

Lovren’s six-year stay at Anfield – in which he made 185 appearances – came to an end this summer when he joined Zenit St Petersburg for a free transfer. Since then his former team have seen starting center-backs Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez injured, while Joel Matip is also out.

Fabinho and Jordan Henderson have recently started defense, meaning Lovren undoubtedly would have had more playing time than last season if he had stayed. In his last campaign on Merseyside he made ten league appearances before choosing to sign for Zenit on a £ 10million deal.

In a recent interview with Sport Express (via the Daily Mirror), Lovren insisted he had no regrets about his release.

He said: “No I don’t regret [leaving]. My decision this summer was firm: to leave Liverpool, and I’m not looking back. I got angry last season when I didn’t play, but now everything is different.

“I think I miss Liverpool more than I miss and Jurgen Klopp knows that because we communicate. He recently wrote: ”We miss you. ”I spoke with Jurgen [after I left], but I will not disclose details. Jurgen only said good things and wished him luck. “

Since joining Zenit, Lovren has always been there for Sergei Semak’s side, making 23 appearances in all competitions and appearing in all but one of the Champions League group matches.

After neglecting to sign a replacement for the Croatian this summer, Liverpool could be tempted to dive into the transfer market this month, with released Arsenal defender Sokratis Papastathopoulos previously linked with a short-term shock move.
