The story of the Lahore Qalandars pacer Haris Rauf is an inspiring one for all the young and budding cricketers. Almost two years ago, nobody was familiar with the name of Haris Rauf until he decided to feature in the talent hunt program of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) franchise.
He was not selected in the Rawalpindi trials initially but he went on to bowl the fastest bowl of the whole talent hunt program organized by the Qalandars in the Gujranwala trials. Since then, the raw paceman of Lahore Qalandars hasn’t looked back and is achieving new heights of fame and popularity.
After the trials, Haris Rauf was sent to Australia to train with the Big Bash League (BBL) franchise Sydney Thunder. He also played some competitive club cricket in Australia in order to make himself ready for professional cricket.
In the last season of the Pakistan Super League (PSL), Haris Rauf was picked by the Lahore Qalandars in the emerging category and he unleashed the best performance for the franchise in his debut PSL season. Rauf was the second-highest wicket-taker for Lahore Qalandars in the PSL 2019.
Haris Rauf’s BBL Journey:
Haris Rauf achieved a lot of fan base and fame through the laudable platform of the highly-celebrated Pakistan Super League (PSL). However, the much bigger news was waiting for him as he was called by the Big Bash League (BBL) franchise Melbourne Stars to play for them in the ongoing Big Bash League (BBL) 2019.
It was a dream come true for someone like Haris Rauf because he was called in as the replacement of the injured Dale Steyn. Haris has always been a great admirer of Dale Steyn and he got the opportunity to play alongside him in the same franchise. You cannot ask for a better opportunity, can you?
Haris grabbed the opportunity with both hands and started his BBL career with a bang by taking a wicket off the very first ball that he bowled in the league. Haris has taken 10 wickets in the tournament so far in just three games including a five-for in his 2nd game.
The right-arm pacer is enjoying his time in Australia and he uploaded a few pictures with his idol Dale Steyn where he acknowledged that playing in Australia in the Big Bash League (BBL) alongside guys like Dale Steyn has been an absolute pleasure for him.
Haris also said in his tweet that Dale Steyn has been helping him a lot with his bowling and he’s learning new tricks from the master himself.
The South African fast bowler Dale Steyn also shared that Haris Rauf is a machine and he absolutely loved hanging out with the young pacer of Pakistan and Lahore Qalandars.
It is a dream come true for someone like Haris Rauf who used to idolize Dale Steyn and now playing alongside him is going to help Haris Rauf a lot in his bowling.
Credit should be given to Lahore Qalandars as well because they unearthed a quality pacer like Haris Rauf from the streets of Rawalpindi and Islamabad. Before his inclusion in the PSL and Lahore Qalandars, Haris used to play tape-ball cricket in Islamabad and Rawalpindi professionally.
