Chelsea roster set to start against Manchester City

Chelsea will be hoping to leave their inconsistent form in 2020 when they kick off the New Year against Manchester City on Sunday.

City haven’t played since Boxing Day due to a COVID-19 outbreak in the squad and therefore they are expected to be without five first-team players on Sunday, so Frank Lampard will see this as an opportunity for his struggling team. .

Here’s how the boss should line up Chelsea for the game.

Édouard Mendy (GK) – Mendy has looked a bit shaky in recent weeks, but it’s hard to imagine a world in which his form is getting so bad that he gave up for Kepa Arrizabalaga.

Cesar Azpilicueta (RB) – Reece James has suffered knee and hamstring injuries in recent weeks and is clearly in need of rest, so expect Azpilicueta to replace the youngster again.

Kurt Zouma (CB) – After being rested against Aston Villa, Zouma should be eager to go for this one.

Thiago Silva (CB) – Lampard needs Silva’s leadership and experience to help pull the whole team out of this recent crisis.

Ben Chilwell (LB) – Chilwell has impressed against Villa and doesn’t appear to be injured these days, so he will likely keep his place in the roster.

Kai Havertz

N’Golo Kante (DM) – Chelsea need their best midfielder to get a 10/10 performance if they are to get anything out of this one.

Mason frame (CM) – Mount could probably rest, but he’ll likely hold his place due to a lack of fit alternatives.

Kai Havertz (CM) – Jorginho has struggled recently and Mateo Kovacic found himself in the wrong books in the 3-1 loss to Arsenal, so now is the perfect time to bring Havertz back to the starting lineup.

Callum Hudson-Odoi (RW) – One of the very few bright sparks on Chelsea’s side in recent weeks, Hudson-Odoi is expected to be the first name on the roster against City.

Tammy Abraham (ST) – This is a real clash between Abraham and Olivier Giroud. Both scored in their last league outing but as Abraham was rested against Villa he will be the coolest man here.

Christian Pulisic (LW) – With Hakim Ziyech not yet ready to start and Timo Werner still struggling for form, Chelsea’s only other wide option is Pulisic, who has had a glimpse of his star talent in recent weeks.
