Liverpool have confirmed the signing of Preston defender Ben Davies on a long-term contract worth around £ 2million.
News of the Reds’ interest broke on Sunday and they quickly agreed to a sum with the Championship team, adding Sepp van den Berg as a lender to soften the deal.
Liverpool have now confirmed the deal, Davies taking the number 28 shirt.

Davies told the club’s website upon joining, “I’m obviously delighted to be here.
“It’s a huge opportunity. Obviously it was a bit of a surprise at first, but once you start to understand, the opportunity presented to me is incredible. I would be a fool not to make the most of it and learn from the players [at the club].
“I have never been to Anfield and have yet to take a look. I took a quick peek and took a peek at the grounds and it looks like carpet which is obviously what you would expect.
“I’m not out of the tunnel yet, so I can’t wait to be there. To be in that kind of atmosphere is great. “
Davies’ signing may not be Liverpool’s only business on deadline day. They have been linked with a number of other center-backs and Ozan Kabak is expected to be on loan from Schalke.
Marseille’s Duje Caleta-Car had been touted as a potential option, although the Ligue 1 side’s struggles to find a replacement made a possible deal tricky.
The Premier League champions’ struggles in central defense have been well documented this season.
Virgil van Dijk suffered an ACL injury to his right knee in October and is expected to miss most of the season, while Joe Gomez and Joel Matip also suffer from long-term issues. Fabinho has suffered from blows throughout the campaign, and recently Jordan Henderson had to replace at full-back alongside Nat Phillips.
