Barcelona presidential candidate Emili Rousaud has reportedly reached an agreement to sign Erling Haaland from Borussia Dortmund if he wins the next election.
The successor of former leader Josep Maria Bartomeu will be determined on January 24 and, in a crowded field, several of the candidates have started to run ambitious promises to try to make sure they win the race for the best position.
Rousaud has been one of the busiest in the face of these promises. He has already suggested the idea of renaming Camp Nou in honor of Lionel Messi and bringing Neymar back on a free transfer in 2022, and next on his list is a deal to sign Haaland.
At a recent press conference, Rousaud confirmed that Josep Maria Minguella would be his vice president if he wins, and it was Minguella who suggested the duo had already gotten a head start on their transfer business. .
“It’s a person with a contract in place [at another club] and we have to be discreet, ”Minguella said.” What we won’t do is filter the information. It’s very good for the newspapers and very bad for the club.
“Every time you drop a player’s name, for example, it adds an extra million [to their price tag]. Discretion is the key. “
While there is obviously no mention of Haaland’s name, Marca and AS say the Dortmund striker is the player Minguella was talking about. As the story goes, Rousaud has already made a deal with Dortmund and agent Mino Raiola to bring Haaland to Camp Nou (Camp Nou-Leo Messi, if Rousaud gets his wish).
Rousaud is not seen as a top candidate to win the next election – with Joan Laporta and Victor Font seen as the favorites – which perhaps explains why he and Minguella didn’t hesitate to make bold promises to the club members.
Minguella went on to discuss Messi’s future, adding: “From the first moment I didn’t think he would leave. Now I know for sure. Leo is happy at Barcelona, but he wants to win.
“He went from the Champions League, La Liga and Copa del Rey winning nothing. He still has that player’s mentality. The merit of a great athlete is to have a winning mentality. ”
