Barcelona presidential candidate admits he wants to sign Marcus Rashford
Exclusive – Barcelona presidential candidate Jordi Farre named Manchester United’s Marcus Rashford among the strikers he “loves the most in the world” as he discussed the need for the Catalan club to strengthen themselves in attack.
Barcelona are currently preparing for the presidential elections, which will take place in January, following the resignation of Josep Maria Bartomeu in October.
Among the most prominent contenders is Farre, 45, who runs under the slogan “La Gran Remuntada” (the big comeback) and has made headlines for his promises which include free pizzas and tattoos for women. members of Neymar’s return club.
It has been a delicate year for Barcelona, who, amid the turmoil of a financial crisis and transfer demand from Lionel Messi, struggled in La Liga – currently fifth in the table eight points behind the leaders Atletico Madrid.
Managing the team’s renovation at the time of the pandemic and its economic implications has been a regular topic of discussion for would-be Barcelona presidents.
Talk to 90min.esFarre described areas of the team that he believes need strengthening.
“I thought Barça needed a central defender but if you look at how [Ronald] Araujo and [Oscar] Mingueza play, they even moved [Clement] Lenglet, said Farre.
“In the end, if Araujo, Mingueza, [Gerard] Pique and Lenglet are available to play, so the center-back position would be more or less full.
“But I also said we need a striker, I think we need a goalscorer and I think [Martin] Braithwaite needs a replacement or a better starter, right?
“I think Braithwaite can be a very good option, but he should be Barca’s fifth or sixth front row player.”
Farre went on to list three attackers he likes and would likely like to see targeted in addition to Neymar.
He continued: “Look, there is one that I have loved for a long time and yesterday he scored a great goal. I didn’t see it but they told me it’s spectacular that it’s Raul de Tomas [of Espanyol].
“I think he’s a player who has a lot of things to do – he has injury issues and that – but I also like [Erling] Haaland, Raul de Tomas, Rashford – I love him too. I think there are some very interesting players. “
He added: “Rashford is one of the footballers I love the most in the world.”
Rashford, 23, is currently on contract until 2023 at Old Trafford, while United retain the option of extending their contract for a year.
The England international, who received a special Sports Personality of the Year award for his campaign against child poverty in the UK, has scored 12 times in 21 games this season so far.
Reports earlier this year claimed that Rashford had in fact tentatively agreed to move to Barcelona in 2018, but ultimately gave up on the deal in order to stay at United.
