The emergence of Babar Azam as a top-class batsman has been overwhelming for the fans in Pakistan because the right-handed batsman has well and truly achieved the status of a proper world-class batsman. Before the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019, Babar Azam was only a talented batsman in the squad who used to play good knocks every now and then.
However, after the conclusion of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019, Babar Azam emerged as a completely different batsman because he played one of the best knocks of his career in that World Cup against New Zealand. Pakistan’s semi-final spot was in danger as they met the Kiwis in a very important match in the World Cup.
Kiwis were unbeaten in that World Cup before Pakistan got them and Babar Azam emerged as a national hero after that match. Pakistan were batting second in that match against New Zealand and they were chasing around 240 runs in the given 50 overs.
After losing early wickets of Imam-ul-Haq and Fakhar Zaman, Babar Azam stood there like a rock and grabbed the opportunity with both hands. He formed a significant partnership with Haris Sohail and went on to score his maiden World Cup century in that match.
The pitch wasn’t easy for batting on that day and the Kiwi pacers and spinners were creating a lot of problems for Babar Azam and Haris Sohail. Both the Pakistani batsmen took their time and played their shots comfortably once they were settled in. Pakistan’s victory in that match was purely because of Babar Azam’s knock and he hasn’t looked back since that match.
Babar Azam signed by Somerset once again:
Now, the fresh news from the center is that Babar Azam has been signed once again by the English county Somerset for the upcoming edition of the Vitality Blast T20 competition in 2020. Soon after the World Cup, Babar joined Somerset for his first county assignment in his career and he had a fantastic season with the club.
Babar scored 578 runs for Somerset in the last year’s Vitality Blast competition and he has been signed by the English county once again for the upcoming season. Azam also scored his maiden T20 century in that competition for the same club.
Babar is going to be available for Somerset in their 12 matches in the T20 competition whilst he’s also going to play in the two County Championship matches for the club.
“I really enjoyed my time at Somerset and I look forward to coming back. Somerset has a very good squad and the supporters made me feel very welcome. Hopefully, I can help the club reach the knock-out stages of the Vitality Blast and contribute to winning matches in the County Championship,” – Babar Azam.
The participation of Babar Azam in the Vitality Blast T20 competition is subjected to ‘No Objection Certificate’ (NOC) by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) because the cricket board has announced strict policies regarding foreign T20 leagues.
Babar Azam is also the captain of the national t20 side of Pakistan and he’s going to face a lot of challenges in 2020.
The 25-year-old is currently ranked among the best batsmen in world cricket and his powerful partnership with Tom Banton is offering a lot for the fans at the top of the order for Somerset. Tom Banton was the opening partner of Babar Azam in the last year’s Vitality Blast Competition and he also had a wonderful tournament along with Babar Azam scoring over 500 runs.
Tom Banton is going to play for Peshawar Zalmi in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) whereas Babar Azam will represent the Karachi Kings in the upcoming PSL 2020.
