Arsenal set to offer Emile Smith Rowe a new contract

Arsenal are ready to sit down with young midfielder Emile Smith Rowe to discuss a new contract as a reward for his outstanding recent form.

A streak of two assists and one goal in three Europa League games have earned the 20-year-old a place in the starting lineup for December’s 3-1 win over Chelsea, and since his introduction to the squad, Arsenal haven’t lost a game.

With three Premier League assists already under his belt, Smith Rowe has appeared as creative midfielder Arsenal has been screaming for months and, according to the Daily Mail, the Gunners are ready to offer him a lucrative new deal.

He currently has two and a half years left on his current contract, but Arsenal are keen to remove any uncertainty surrounding his future and hope to see him sign another long-term extension before the end of the season.

Smith Rowe is expected to receive somewhere close to the £ 40,000 a week recently awarded to compatriot Bukayo Saka, although payments may be staggered until fans return to the Emirates.

Arsenal are confident Smith Rowe will choose to commit to the club he’s been at since 2010, despite a handful of clubs from across Europe casting speculative looks in his direction.

Smith Rowe’s outstanding recent form has seen Arsenal put on hold their intention to embark on a creative new midfielder. Important moves for Isco, Houssem Aouar and Julian Brandt had been rumored, but Mikel Arteta is now ready to keep the faith with the young Englishman.

However, there is a realization that Smith Rowe cannot be considered Arsenal’s only creative midfielder, so the hope is to find a more low-key target who can share the workload.

One player who has recently become a target is Real Madrid’s Martin Odegaard, who wants to leave the Santiago Bernabeu on loan this month after failing to make a real impact on the first team.

It’s seen as a tough deal to make, so Arsenal may have to look elsewhere in their search for another creator.
