Borussia Dortmund are considering a move for Ajax goalkeeper Andre Onana as they seek to find a suitable replacement for Roman Burki.
Onana’s future has been a constant source of speculation over the past 12 months with a slew of European clubs monitoring her performance.
Chelsea and Tottenham have both been credited with an interest in the 24-year-old goalscorer, although the pair’s respective Premier League offers failed to materialize.
Last year, the Cameroon international made no secret of his desire to leave Ajax – with a move to Barcelona once likely – but with the coronavirus pandemic impacting the finances of football clubs around the world, Onana has was forced to stay in Eredivisie.
However, with Onana’s current deal expiring in 18 months, Ajax are keen to cooperate with any clubs that want to make a competitive offer, and they may well receive such an offer from Borussia Dortmund.
According to BILD, current Der BVB number one Burki “falls short of the expectations” of the Bundesliga giants, and Onana is one of many names on a list of potential successors.
RB Leipzig’s Peter Gulacsi and Benfica’s Odisseas Vlachodimos are also of interest to Dortmund’s transfer team, with the € 15million first release clause making him the cheapest option of the three.
It remains to be seen how much Ajax would ask Onana, however – with his contract expiring in the summer of 2022 – the figure is likely to be significantly lower than the € 40-50million they cited to slightly less interested parties. than a year ago. .
Onana has been in great shape this season, conceding just 15 goals in 20 league appearances, helping Ajax establish a significant lead at the top of the Eredivisie.
