Amad Diallo makes his first appearance since a £ 38.5million transfer in January from Atalanta to Manchester United – as the club face fierce north-west rivals Liverpool in an Under-23 game in Premier League 2.

Diallo, who is expected to become a first-team player before the end of the season, even got off to a perfect start, scoring in the opening 15 minutes of the contest. United took a 2-0 lead thanks to Joe Hugill, although Liverpool have since reduced it to 2-2 with the game still ongoing.

With the shirts numbered 1-11 at the Under-23 level, Diallo lined up as United’s shirt 11, although on his first-team debut he had already been given the former No. Marcus Rashford.

United fans were already excited about the Ivorian teenager, but his immediate impact will only increase the anticipation surrounding this enormous talent, which is greatly appreciated by those who knew him and worked with him in Italy.

Diallo has trained with the first team before but United was always expected to be cautious and patient with the 18-year-old giving him time to settle in as he did. with his compatriot Facundo Pellistri in recent months.

But Diallo is already preventing manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer from ignoring him.

When first speaking about the player to the media earlier this month, the United boss said it would likely take less than four or five weeks for Diallo to be named to a squad of the day.

Solskjaer reiterated that position just a few days ago, highlighting the potential for Diallo to have a chance in the first team as soon as possible.

“With Amad, I think it’s a different scenario [to Pellistri], he’s just come in and he’s on a good training program, a training program, and he’s doing great. It won’t be too long, I think, before I can get him into the squad, ”Solskjaer said.

Speaking on Friday of the Under-23 clash at Liverpool, Solskjaer also said of Diallo: “He has trained really well and settled down. He’s ready to have some playing time and exposure to the game. I can not wait to see it.
