The NorthEast United assistant coach believes the Highlanders can certainly qualify for the ISL play-offs…
NorthEast United have parted ways with Gerard Nus after their 1-1 draw with Bengaluru FC earlier this week. Since then, Khalid Jamil has been named the team’s interim coach for the remainder of the Indian Super League (ISL) season.
Alison Kharsyntiew, who is the team’s assistant coach, felt Jamil could guide NorthEast United into the top four. He also pointed out that Jamil had done reasonably well in the Indian soccer circuit after winning the I-League title with Aizawl FC.
“Khalid is a good coach. He has had a lot of success in Indian football and I’m sure he will bring a lot of performance and results. We have to be consistent in our performance and if we are consistent I am sure we will reach the top four. We have to work hard as a team and give the best of ourselves, ”said Kharsyntiew.
NorthEast United haven’t won a single game in their last outings and the blame will fall on them when they face Jamshedpur FC on Sunday night.
“We always play a balanced game. If we lose the ball we try to defend and if we win the ball we try to create chances, ”he said.
The good news for the club is that forward Idrissa Sylla is back in contention for a start after missing the last game with a stroke. However, new signing Deshorn Brown might not have a start but could possibly be on the bench.
“We have to wait for this. It’s (Brown) a good signing for the club. With his caliber I think he can help a lot with our remaining games, ”said Kharsyntiew.
He also shared his thoughts on forward Kwesi Appiah, who was injured last month and was on trial for the remainder of the campaign.
“He is still under treatment with the medical team.”
Former Shillong Lajong coach also spoke about the threat Nerijus Valskis poses and how his defenders need to be vigilant throughout in order to keep the ISL Golden Shoe winner under control.
“The team is ready and motivated for tomorrow’s game and we are only focusing on tomorrow’s game. We have to be very focused and focused and we must not leave any space for the Valskis, ”Kharsyntiew said.
