The Pakistan Cricket Team is gearing up for another T20I series at home as the Bengal Tigers have finally agreed to tour Pakistan for a series of three T20Is, two Tests and a one-off ODI. The series is going to take place in three phases with the first phase starting on the 24th of January with a T20I series.
The selection committee has also added quite a few youngsters in the squad and the opening batsman from Karachi Ahsan Ali is one of them. Ahsan got his chance in the T20I series after some consistent performances in the domestic circuit.
He has also played for the Quetta Gladiators in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) and he is aware of the pressure in high-voltage encounters.
Opening batsman Fakhar Zaman has been dropped from the T20I side and the vacant space at the top of the order is going to be filled by Ahsan Ali along with Babar Azam.
Ahsan Ali has also played for Pakistan U-19 in the ICC U-19 World Cup in 2010. He played alongside his current teammates Babar Azam and Usman Qadir in that World Cup. Ahsan Ali is an explosive option at the top of the order and he idolizes the Indian opener, Rohit Sharma.
“First of all, I am extremely thankful to Almighty ALLAH. It was a dream to play for Pakistan and I couldn’t keep my excitement when I heard my name in the squad,” said Ahsan Ali while addressing the media at the Gaddafi Stadium Lahore.
Ahsan also stated that he will try to grab the opportunity with both hands as the competition in the side is very tough and he wants to play for Pakistan for a long period of time. He also went on to acknowledge the prowess of the T20I skipper of Pakistan and said that he’s looking forward to opening the innings with Babar Azam.
“Babar Azam is a class act and I am looking forward to bat alongside him and he is an experienced player and we can learn a lot from him.”
He was asked about his aggressive nature during the media talk and Ahsan Ali replied that he will try to accommodate himself with the conditions and play according to the situation.
Ahsan has been playing a lot of cricket as an opener in the domestic circuit and now he has got the opportunity to play alongside the no.1 T20I batsman and that too for his country. The young opening batsman is looking forward to a memorable international debut as his eyes are now on the T20I series against the Bengal Tigers.
Ahsan also revealed that he couldn’t sleep for the whole night as he was expected to be picked in the T20I side of Pakistan and when he heard his name in the press conference of the Head Coach and the Chief Selector, he could no longer control his happiness and excitement at that moment.
The T20I squad of Pakistan is a mixture of experienced and young players and it would be interesting to see how the two teams fight against each other in the upcoming T20I series.
