Adama Traore has lower xG than Wolves center-back Willy Boly this season
After a career best season in 2019/20, Adama Traore’s form fell off a cliff in 2020/21, to the point where center-back Willy Boly has a higher xG count than the quick winger after the loss Saturday against a fierce local. rivals West Brom.
Traore has scored four goals and collected nine assists in the Premier League season to establish himself as one of Wolves’ most important players. But the 24-year-old Spaniard has been the shadow of that player in recent months, and his side are worse for it.
Boly scored and got an assist within five minutes in the 3-2 loss to West Brom at Molineux. His individual xG, the stat that measures the quality of odds and the likelihood of goals in determining a team’s or player’s performance in front of goal, is 0.77.
Traore’s xG number is 0.68.
While just a few months ago he was one of Wolves’ main sources of creativity and chance, the former Barcelona academy graduate failed to manage a Premier League goal or assist all season.
Traore’s future at Wolves has also become uncertain, which may have something to do with his form and his disgraced fate earlier in the campaign.
Discussions on a new contract seemed to be going well and Wolves believed they had reached an agreement in principle, with only minor details to work out. But the negotiations have stalled and what seemed like small issues have become bigger issues.
Leeds are interested in the player and Traore has considered leaving Molineux. Wolves could ask for around £ 40million, more than double what they paid Middlesbrough for him in 2018, but far less than the £ 75million they valued him last summer.
