Milan have confirmed the arrival of Mario Mandzukic with the leader signing a one-year contract with the club.
The former Croatia international left Italy just over a year ago after losing favor with Juventus. After moving to Qatar, Al-Duhail SC, in December 2019, Mandzukic’s contract was terminated by mutual agreement after just ten appearances for the club.
Having been without a team since July, the 34-year-old has now secured a transfer to Serie A leaders Milan as they look to build up their strike force in a bid to maintain their tilt for the title.
Veteran talisman Zlatan Ibrahimovic has been in sensational form for the Rossoneri this season – failing only to score in one of his eight league appearances – but other than the enigmatic Swede, no Milan squad player has not scored more than six league goals this season.
Mandzukic’s arrival will provide much-needed competition for Ibrahimovic, and Milan have taken to their official website to confirm the news.
“AC Milan are delighted to announce the signing of Mario Mandzukic,” the statement read. “The Club and the striker have reached an agreement until the end of the current season with an option to extend the contract for the next one. Mario Mandzukic will wear jersey number 9.
“Mandžukić has won 24 trophies including a UCL, a UEFA Super Cup, a FIFA World Cup, nine championships and 12 between National Cups and Super Cups. He is the second highest scorer for the Croatian national team with 33 goals in 89 appearances. ”
Mandzukic returns to Italy after experiencing a trophy-laden period in Serie A between 2015 and 2019. His stint with Juventus saw him clinch a league-winning medal in each of his four years with the club, and with Milan. leading in this year’s race. at the Scudetto, there is every chance he could add to his already impressive collection.
