Lahore Qalandars ‘ status in recent years has not changed at all since the Central Punjab team has lost its first three matches in the current Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2020.
Fingers were, as predicted, pointed against Lahore Qalandars, and the fans’ outrage was focused at the Head Coach Aaqib Javed. Javed responded to all the turmoil and claimed that the players’ struggle to play on the field contributed to such embarrassing defeats for the Qalandars’ franchise.
Aaqib believed that the decision to ensure that the players change things in accordance with the conditions was a responsibility of the team, even if they had to go against the pre-match plans of the management.
Javed also said the franchise of Qalandars isn’t a squad of U15 players who need some word-to-word advice in a critical match.
“The head coach of the Qalandars said that every player playing the team has over ten years’ of experience and they should be able to make decisions according to the game situation.”
Lahore Qalandars have lost their first three matches to Multan, Islamabad United and Peshawar Zalmi. The skipper of the side Sohail Akhtar has been facing criticism as well for his poor captaincy and weak strategies during the crucial parts of the matches.
“Sohail Akhtar was surrounded by a plethora of experienced players that failed with the bat and the blame was directed towards the inexperienced captain of our side,” said Aaqib in an interview.
He added that the Lahore Qalandars’ bowlers could not properly execute their plans and a total of 182 was chased against the Lahore franchise due to their poor bowling strategies. The Qalandars are going to face the defending champions Quetta Gladiators in their next clash at the Qaddafi Stadium Lahore.
